Great Musicals for Kids

Please tell me you instantly sang out "...with the Sound of Music!" If so, we should be friends, best friends. I love, love, love musicals. Let's try some more...

"It's a jolly holiday with Mary. Mary makes _______________."

"He has the head of a camel, the neck of ______________."

"Slowly, slowly, he sank into the sea. With a _______________, he sank into the sea."
"Maybe their strict, as straight as a line. Don't really care ______________."

How did you do??

When I daydream, I always think how if I could design a world...it would be a musical world! Everyone would sing beautifully, in the middle of their sentences. Everyone would know the same dances and dance in perfect sync...in the middle of the street! Music would just start playing from the sky when people were falling in love. When someone is scared...the horror show sounds start playing. Fun, huh? Don't you want to live in my world?

Okay, I'm weird. But, I wanted to share with you some of my most favorite musicals for little kids! In my house, I love to just turn them on while I'm doing all the house work so I can sing along with them (no, I don't have a great voice). My little Audrey loves them too....she's always belting them out with me! Great fun. I even download the soundtracks onto my ipod and we sing the songs in the car!

1. Pete's Dragon

2. Mary Poppins

3. Annie
4. Babes in Toyland 5. The Wizard of Oz

That should be enough to get you started! There are so many more that I love and that my kids like to watch...but these are the ones that they actually like and understand the storyline. We love the Sound of Music, Oliver, and the likes...but, they don't totally understand the stories...yet.

I LOVE musicals too...growing up that is what I loved to watch most. And the old time ones...White Christmas, 7 brides for 7 brothers, Oklahoma...doesn't get better than that! Musicals are the best.

Jill, 7 brides for 7 brothers...haven't seen that one yet! There are actually a ton I haven't seen that are on my list. It's hard to find 2 hours of quiet time to watch these movies...but one of these days. If you have any other very favorites, let me know...I'll be sure to add those to my "must see" list! Thanks!

I, too, LOVE musicals (and now my kids do too! Including my 11 and 13 year old sons!)! Other recommendations (even with the kids):

1.) High School Musical (we all love to watch this . . .even my husband)

2.) Newsies is Joel's favorite

3.) Sad but true: Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long blog

4.) Summer Magic (Hayley Mills . . . Femininity was my favorite song)

5.) Meet Me in St. Louis

6.) Yankee Doodle Dandy

Then there are the more "adult" musicals like 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, Fiddler on the Roof, Singin in the Rain, etc.

LOVE THEM!!

For your quiz to fill in the blanks. . . The third one threw me. Don't know if I've seen it.

I'm way late reading this post but I just have to post because you described my perfect world! Any excuse for singing and dancing and I'm there. Who cares if I can't carry a tune!

These are all great suggestions. My favorite musical is Singing in the Rain and I have to agree about Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. It's hilarious and I can't get those songs out of my head. "Laundry day, see you there..." See, there I go!

*I just have to comment, not post. Long day = bad sentence structure.
