Activites for Bored Kids

I know all of us mothers have heard this expression so many times a day! After a long winter being cooped up, now we are pulling our hair out finding things to do to keep the youngin's busy. I pulled out my Utah Mama's handbook for some ideas. Granted I know many of you aren't in Utah, but it will help with ideas and Im sure where you live have many of the same places.
Story Times: Most public libraries have story time. Check your local library for listings and times.

Volunteering: What a better way to teach your kids about serving others than volunteering!

Did you know....
  • Youth who volunteer are more likely to do well in school, graduate and vote. - UCLA 1991

  • Young people who volunteer just one hour or more a week are 50% less likely to abuse drugs and engage in at-risk behavior. - Americas Promise 2001

  • 89% of households give to charities each year

  • 44% of American adults volunteer
Many programs plan annual fund-raisers, auctions, walk-a-thons, races or large scale service projects.

In Utah you can go to http://www.informationandreferral.org/ It will give you information on serving in your community.

When you are stuck inside on a rainy or snowy day, here are some kid friendly websites:

I love this post. I ALWAYS need more ideas for my bored kids. The penpal company you listed is actually out of business now. But, I found another one, www.studentsoftheworld.info. Of course, I would NEVER let my child have a letter/email writing relationship with anyone unless I was closely monitoring it (making sure it wasn't some perv in disguise!) But, my kids would love to have a little friend in Austrailia or what have you.

Good work, ole buddy.

You are a life saver. We've been on spring break early due to weather. Thanks for the ideas.
