Kitchen Table Wisdom

Jess, asked me (Kim) if I would be a guest author for this cute blog. I asked what she would like me to blog about, she said "whatever I wanted". Too broad for an indecisive, like me. Anyhow, here are a few of the thoughts I had.

Facts bring us to knowledge, but stories lead to wisdom. The best stories have many meanings; their meaning changes as our capacity to understand and appreciate meaning grows. If we think we have no stories it is because we have not paid enough attention to our lives. Most of us live lives that are far richer and more meaningful than we appreciate.

-Rachel Naomi Remen ( Kitchen Table Wisdom ).

I love this quote from Kitchen Table Wisdom. The older I get the more I am convinced life is made of hundreds of moments, connections, instances which make up the substance of our life. I imagine most reading this blog, live fast paced lives, which in itself robs us from recognizing the richness of our lives. I enjoy blogging because it helps me to reflect on my story, and and recognize the everyday happenings as moments of importance. Sometimes I think I need to be taking grand vacations, or have great furniture, or the latest and greatest gadget in order to be fully living life when really while those things are great, they are nothing without finding true joy and meaning in life. I am going to repeat a little story I shared on my own blog because I feel it illustrates my point.

It is funny to see the way children reason. The other day, Andrew said,"Mom am I black? I said, "Yes." He then followed it up with, "Did God paint me?" He is four, African American, in a white family. He is in preschool doing activities such as finger painting and the likes. I can see how his little mind came to this conclusion. I told him,"No, God makes people all different colors and he made your skin brown, mine white..." and so forth. So today, he rode his John Deere tractor over to the neighbors, and informed Shauna, his tractor is green cause God made it that way. At least he got the lesson, I think. I love this little boy and am Grateful he is in our family.

This was just a quick interaction I had with my little boy which has brought me great joy. It made me laugh, smile and love my little Andrew all the more. So take a break from the crazy pace of life and reflect and the rich and full life you lead, and take a moment to create a memory with your loved ones. Happy Easter! And live your story. (Pick up a copy of Kitchen Table Wisdom, it won't disappoint)

Thanks Kim! I don't think anybody can be reminded enough to 'stop and smell the roses'. The little things are what make life worth living!

Happy Easter Everyone!
