The Best of the Best Cookbooks
I LOVE to read cookbooks! My mom has tons of them and I like to just sit there and peruse
them. Some are practical, some not so much. Here are my 5 favorite cookbooks.
Deemed the "kitchen Bible," you can find anything in this great book. The recipe's are
reliable, directions are straightforward- with no hocus-pocus. It has thousands of useful tips
from cooking a pot roast to the different types of sugars on the grocery store shelf. If you don't
believe me here's what some people said about The Doubleday Cookbook-
"In 20 years of owning this cookbook, I have never one time made a bum recipe from it! As a
young bride it was the cookbook that taught me the most about cooking, and to this day if I need to find a recipe, chances are it's in there. I will get one of these for each of my children when they get married."
"This book has been in my kitchen for about thirty years and contains virtually a recipe for every dish imaginable. My children love it and when it finally fell apart I bought a new version containing even more recipes. A great companion for every cook!"
the family I guess)

I love this book because it has such a story that goes with it. It was started in 1931, the year after the great depression by a woman named Irma Rombauer. She was 54 years old. By 1962 the sixth edition was published. Her daughter and grandson took over revising the book after she died. I think that is partly why this book is so great, is because it changes with the times. Chef's all around the world declare this book a "Bible" in the kitchen. I would definitely agree!
The Betty Crocker Cookbook. Your Grandma is the best cook you know and I know she has this one!
It has 1,000 easy to follow recipes, creative cooking ideas with 400 recipe variations! A new "slow cooker" and less than 20 minutes recipes, for all you busy moms out there. Detailed nutritional information, and great color photos and illustrations!
Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld
I like this book because I have the pickiest eater you'd ever meet! It has everything from sweet potato pancakes to cauliflower mac n' cheese. Your kids are eating healthy and don't even know it!
My last choice of cookbooks and my most favorite are family, neighborhood, church and friend cookbooks. I think these are the ones I go to the most for recipes that my family loves. It also brings memories, when you are cooking these dishes!

The thing I love about the big encyclopedic cookbooks is they tell how to do EVERYTHING, even stuff you are embarrassed to admit you don't know, like how to hard boil an egg or cook an artichoke.

I LOVE cookbooks too. I have so many but quite a few of them I never use because the recipes are just fun to look at but I would never buy all the random ingredients for it. I guess I need to try Jessica Seinfeld's book. I've heard it's good but haven't talked to anyone who has actually used it themselves!
It's nice to know I'm not the only one that reads cookbooks, and not just looking for recipes but for the inspiration and joy of cooking. I have used some of the recipes out of Jessica Seinfield's book, they're good, but a little bland, you'll need to add seasonings. I collect cookbooks, I have a lot of them, and would love to collect more!
I'll check out the Doubleday cook book. I've had a joy of cooking book since I was a newlywed (loong ago. ) and had to get a new one because the old one fell apart. esp love the middle w/ info about herbs, measurements and substitutions.
