Doing this post made me realize kids just like the novelty of things and not the taste, cuz most of these candies don't taste good- at least now anyways. They are nostalgic!

Remember these nasty little buggers? They came with stickers and a stick of gum? Did anyone have a complete collection? You can still get them today! Go to www.garbagepailkids.com and show your kids what weird things tickled our fancies! (or maybe not)
A round of applause for the tattoo inside this pack of gum, because after chewing a stick of this for 5 seconds, the flavor was gone and it had turned to glue. On that note, I'm gonna go get me a pack of Big League Chew!
Candy Cigarettes.... we thought we were pretty cool. Don't worry mom- pure sugar.
Is it me or is there a theme to these tobacco enticing novelties?
Weren't these yummy? Bite the top off, suck out the juice and chew the wax..... disgusting. But they made for great memories!
Necco wafers. Remind me of communion. Also a patriotic candy; they were shipped overseas during WWII, because they didn't melt and shipped nicely. They're becoming more popular these days because they are fat-free, and are very nostalgic for baby boomers. Now you know.
This breaks my heart. I have been going "bonkers" trying to find these guys, just to find out they have been discontinued! Remember the square shaped candies that came in two colors?
They remind me of the days we would sneak down to a little store and buy our candy cigarettes and bonkers. Those were the days.

My mom despised Garbage Pail Kids...but we would buy them when we went to our friends houses.
Remember Bazooka Joe gum and the comics. Loved getting those....oh, and Jolly Rancher sticks (not the little candies, the big flat sticks).
Good times, good times...
Pop rocks (still love them) and lick-a-stick. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Yea, I forgot about Pop Rocks! AND...I love PEZ...always steal a few when I'm putting them in the dispenser for the kids!
OMIGOSH! Garbage Pail Kids and Bonkers?!? Jessica, you've just made my day.
I'm starting to sing "Memories" in my head now....
You are right, all of these things are nasty, and all of them made me smile remembering when I had them. I also had big bands on my head and matching socks tucked into my hand tapered pants.
Boy do these take you back!! :) We weren't allowed to have candy cigs... I was always so mad about that! LOL! But we sure did have our fair share of fruit stripe gum! Stopping by from SITS!
Thanks for tickling my taste buds! I still buy fruit stripes gum for my little girl. She would LOVE Garbage Pail Kids...I did! And don't get me started on the candy cigs! LOL She needs to join a 12-step program!
ohhh so fun! I love remember these things! I've been craving the old "Now and Laters" for sooooo long now. I thought I found them once, turned out it wasn't. My mom would buy the HUGE container from costco. They were a big square, and thicker than the ones now... and softer too. oh they were so good, now my mouth is watering!
EVERY single one you listed...especially the cigs...were my favorites!! We have a candy shop down on the beach, about 10 minutes from us, that sells all of these and more. You can purchase and even ship boxes of candy that correlate to the decade you or someone was born...what a GENIUS idea!! Check out their site....

WARNIGN: Don't go to that site I listed in my above post...you will be VERY tempted to buy EVERYTHING!!
Oh how I forgot about you Smartie Sucker, U-NO candy bar, Whistle Pop, Sixlets, Sugar Babies, Ring Pop, Pixy Sticks, Fun DIp ( I get every now and then at the gas station!), Moon Pies, Freshen Up Gum with the liquid in the center, Chick-o-sticks, TINY Chiclets, Candy Buttons, Candy Necklaces...
Now you all know why I have a filling in just about every tooth in my head!!! But they are white...not amalgam...if that counts for anything!!
Tiffany- I just checked out that website- awesome! I forgot about that freshen up gum and moon pies- love 'em!
All these candies are yucky, except for the Bonkers. (Bonkers always rocked my world.)
I also really liked Dweebs...do you remember them? Like Nerds, but soft.
Also loved the Jolly Ranchers, but in the long, flat form (ya know, the shape of Air Heads.)
Laffy Taffy. (I swear it tasted better when they were in the square form. Also, they had a lot more flavors back then.)
Great post! Has me craving for sweets. My favorite candy as a kid was the jolly rancher stick in watermelon and the Icecube( it was a square piece of chocolate that would melt in your mouth!)
aaahhhh...the memories...
my dad was "SO UNFAIR" not letting me have candy cigarettes...lol...do they even sell those anymore? Can you imagine the outrage by todays mothers?
I have found the candy cigarettes being sold at the dollar stores here. They are now called 'candy sticks'. They come in tiny boxes with cartoon characters on them. I often find a lot more of them around Halloween. So glad I was finally able to buy some. Just don't tell my Mother that they are the same candy. They still look just like cigarettes.
Anyone remember Willy Wonka Tart n Tiny's? I loved those.
I tried sharing the wax "bottles" with my kids recently. Did we really actually enjoy those things? Wow, yucky!!
