How To "Paint" A Pretty Picture (she: Lindsay)

Hi, I am Lindsay, with an "A".
I am a wife to one, Mr.Wonderful. Mommy to one (so far), Mr.C.
I am right handed.
I laugh loud.
I do not like to read directions.
I like to take pictures.
I do not own a dishwasher.

I am a stay at home/work at home/going back to school at home mommy
(what am I thinking?).

I love to sell the pictures I paint.

Today I am going to show you how to "paint" a pretty picture.
Because I do NOT like to read directions I will attempt to give minimal directions, but many pictures to help you along the way!

You need:
  • a protected surface (I like to use parchment paper for easy clean-up)
  • a canvas (8 x 10 back stapled, stretched canvas - if you don't know what the heck I am talking about you can head to the framing department in your local craft store, they will)
  • scissors
  • a pencil
  • scrapbook paper of your choice (8 1/2 x 11 or 12 x 12 works fine)
  • paintbrush(es)
  • a ruler
  • Modge Podge (if you don't know what that is, my friend Amy can help)
  • craft paint (two colors of your choice)

Using a protected surface paint the side edges of the canvas.
Paint 1/2 inch edge of the canvas face.
Allow to dry.
Repeat step until you have enough coats to make you happy.

Using a ruler, draw a rectangle
measuring 7 & 3/4 inches by 9 & 3/4 inches
on the back of the scrapbook paper.

Cut out the rectangle.
You want the rectangle to fit nicely
on the top of the canvas with no overlapping edges.

Using Modge Podge cover the entire front of canvas.
Align the scrapbook paper on the center of the canvas.
Smooth paper.
Allow to dry.
(Wash your brush VERY well...it will be ruined if you don't.
Modge Podge is wonderful but it is like glue and will ruin a paintbrush
if not rinsed properly.)

Once the decoupaged scrapbook paper has properly dried,
With a pencil sketch something like a birdcage,
an initial/monogram, or anything pretty.
Paint whatever you have sketched.
Allow to dry.

Using Modge Podge, cover entire painting creating a protective seal.
Don't forget the side edges...and to wash your brush.
Allow to dry.

Hang your pretty picture for everyone to enjoy.

Oh, wait, you don't sketch.
No problem.
You can use a stencil (from your local craft store) to achieve the same look.
OR
You may use this
Before you cut your scrapbook paper
you can simply print this image on the front of the scrapbook paper
(select to print it on a full page 8 1/2 x 11).

Then you can paint over the printed image.
No one will ever know!

If this is confusing or you have any questions,
feel free to contact me.
The birdcage image is intended for personal use only. Thanks.
