Makeover Your Life (and Hair) for the New Year!

What are your New Year's resolutions going to be??  Do they ever change or do they seem to stay the same from year to year?  One of my favorite things that my dad taught me is that the happiest people are the people who are the most balanced.  They focus on all important areas of their life and make sure they are all attended to regularly.  It's kind of like having a "meeting" with yourself, where you review your life and see what areas you pay too much attention to and what others you may be lacking in.  Then, set a plan to bring them back to balance.  Some of the important things in my life that all deserve attention are: my physical health, my marriage, my children, my social life, my talents, my education, and my spirituality.  Sometimes things get way out of whack, so...like usual, I'll be having a meeting with myself in the next couple days.  Hopefully, I can become a better person every year!  Hopefully.

Anyway, what the heck.  This post is about hair.  I sent out a Facebook request last night asking for post suggestions, and the ever-lovely Jill said, "the latest and cutest hairstyles...preparing for a New Year and a new YOU!"  Perfect.  So, I did a little research.  Besides finding lots of cleavage and tightly pursed lips...I got the inside scoop for 2010.  Here are the top trends for the new year:

Inverted Bob
So, the "bob" has been a favorite for a while now.  But, this year...it's the inverted bob.

Long layers with side swept bangs

Bangs

Soft & Chubby Braids
Braids were on the scene in 2009...but, are still going strong for 2010...

Basically, All Braids!

1970's Inspired
I'm really happy about this one since my hair refuses to part anywhere but the middle for more than a couple hours!

And, there you have it!  But wait, I have to tell you about two hair products I'm loving after I straighten my hair, besides my other favorites for curly hair that I told you about before...these two are now staples in my bathroom cabinet.

First, I'm loving Redken Iron Silk 07 Ultra Straightening Spray 8.5 oz, for $12.67.  It claims to "seal in shine and smoothness" and "strengthen and protect" while you flat iron.  I can't promise that, but it sure makes straightening my curly hair a lot quicker and easier.  Plus, I like knowing that my hair is being protected from the heat.  Oh, and I like the smell.

Second, for after I'm done straightening, I've been loving Pureology Texture Twist, 3-Ounces, $18.29.  It's perfect for taming fly-aways, frizzies, texturizing, and smoothing...and it also smells yummy!

I hope your hair has a fabulous new year!...and YOU too, of course!

Oh how I love all those hairstyles...and I since I have had the same hairstyle for 4 years now, I think it is time for a change...to bad unlike celebrities I don't have someone to make my hair look like that everyday:)

Oh I love Redken Iron Silk. Smells like fresh laundry! You should give DevaCurl a try Mariel. I don't think I'll ever use anything else on my curly hair.

And I'm so happy about the braid trend. I hope its here forever!

Good post!

I will have to try the product suggestions. I have lots of curly hair and it is a pain to straighten sometimes. Thanks for the tip!

I LOVE the bob!!!! Way cute!

Pureology Texture Twist is my best friend in the hair world. It's worth every cent of its price.

I keep trying the bang trend when it surfaces and I'm always disappointed come day 2.

Maybe soon my hair will be long enough to experience the thrill of the braid trend. Maaaaybe.

You're totally awesome! Thanks for doing this post for me. I'm in a middle hair stage, so maybe I'll grow it back out, or go for the inverted bob. It's cute :) You're the best!!!! Loved it all!
