Oh, I am planning to make a doorway puppet theater for my daughter as we don't have the space to store a big piece. You can find instructions at nickjr.com under the Backyardigan's crafts. It is a no sew project, so it should be pretty easy and it will be easy to store.

Cute gift ideas! My daughter turns 5 in a couple of weeks. From us she is getting a digital camera, Barbie and the 3 Musketeers Corrine and horse set, a Prince doll for her Barbies, a couple of books and the game Trouble. My daughter loves to play Barbies, dress up, play her Nintendo DS, play board games and read. I love the dress up accessories you featured! I think I my daughter and I will create our own. We love to do crafts together! And that magazine is too cute! I think I will get her a subscription for Christmas. She loves to get mail, what kid doesn't, right? Plus she loves to read-score! Thanks for this post. My 5yr old DD just had her birthday and now I am looking at ideas for Christmas. She saw the Dream Dazzlers Hair Styling Studio (like a sit down vanity but is a "hair" station) on the commercial for Toys R Us & really loved that idea.

You know I LOVE the Leapster! A five year old would love it! But, any kid would be totally ready for one at age four...then they will get a couple years of use out of it.

I second the Leapster. My son loved his which he received at the age of 4. Now, at almost 6, he has outgrown it (the games are intended for kids up to age 6, I believe, but he finds them too "easy") so he's getting a Nintendo DS for his birthday next month and his little sister will inherit the Leapster. We definitely got our money's worth out of it and I believe it's around $40 now, which is pretty reasonable.

The kids on my street of all ages LOVE their Plasma Cars. They come in lots of colors and even the adults ride them from time to time.

My favorite Melissa and Doug item we own is their easel. VERY durable, good quality and gets daily use. It has dry erase, chalkboard and paper capability so it's great for playing school, painting, leaving notes for each other...just fun. There is a companion Accessory Set for the easel. I highly recommend that as well.

Last, it seems the girls here are crazy for Littlest Pet Shop. My son is this age and the boys are all about Bakugan, but the girls love the Littlest Pet Shop stuff!

One word: LEAPSTER

We gave one to our daughter for her 5th and she opened presents at the restaurant we went to and the girl sitting beside us said in the loudest voice possible, "MOM! SHE got a LEAPSTER!"

You KNOW your gift is the best when you hear it from another kid.

But seriously though, it's the best gift we ever gave her.
